2017
May ‘17 – One month into Garin’s first job in a securities company, Garin was posted into Nabila’s department. They met each other for the first time.
Nov ‘17 – Nabila sent the first text, asking Garin how to open the company email from a web browser during weekends.
2018
Mar ’18 – Garin and Nabila were both selected to become the face of the company’s annual report. Their picture together was posted in the company’s website. Garin still keeps a screenshot of the webpage to this day.
Jul ’18 – Garin and Nabila were selected to join their company’s leadership training. They had great conversations as they sat beside each other throughout the training. However, Nabila was too focused with her grad school application preparation to think anything was special – unlike Garin.
Several days after the training, Garin asked Nabila out for lunch during an office day in SCBD area. It was the first time they sat down and really talked to each other.
Oct ’18 – Garin and Nabila were assigned into the same project. A particular meeting at night ran until 2 AM in the morning. Garin drove Nabila home.
Several days later, in relation to the same project, Nabila was then tasked to join a conference in Singapore. As a gesture of good luck, Garin left a gift on Nabila’s desk. It was a pack of Loacker Quadratini Hazelnut wafers, together with an enveloped card. Scribbled in the back of the envelope were the words: “Enjoy the wafer – bon appetite! [sic]”
Indifferent to the gesture, Nabila offered the Quadratini to colleagues in her department. All her friends remember that moment to this day.
2019
Jul ’19 – Nabila left for New York for graduate school. On her last day at the office, they took a photo together for the first time, at the request of Garin’s friends in his department. Nabila still keeps the picture.
2020
Apr ’20 – After almost one year of no communication, Nabila purchased Garin’s nasi kebuli for her family in Jakarta.
Nov ’20 – They chatted through direct messages and then discussed about business case studies that Nabila learned during grad school. Nabila sent case files to Garin, and many conversations followed suit. However, Nabila was still caught up with her past…
2021
Jun ’21 – Nabila returned to Jakarta for good, and worked in a different company. Both exchanged casual conversations through DMs, especially because Garin also moved to another company.
Oct ’21 – Nabila had a meeting planned together with a mutual friend. She invited Garin along, thinking it might be good to catch up with him. They had really good conversations as Garin drove her back home. After that meeting, they intensively met each other almost every day and enjoyed every second of it. Yet, at one point, the relationship went downhill and they separated for two weeks.
Nov ’21 – It was an intensely crazy workday for Nabila. Garin drove all the way from Senopati to Bogor to come to her and brought her care package – a sign of support that Nabila very much needed.
The rest is then history.
